Hand appointment update

We just went to our 1 year follow up since Logan's 2nd hand surgery. His first one was when he was 11 months old, the surgeon separated fused bone and basically made 2 fingers. The second surgery was to remove an extra upper digit(polydactle). Logan now needs a 3rd surgery on both fingers. They will go in, cut and release the ligament on both fingers and pin them straight for 3 weeks. They will also remove the excess fatty tissue.

The surgeon agreed that this could wait. So here is the plan. Logan will have major pelvic/hip/femur surgery in about a year or so. He will be in another body cast for 6-8 weeks. 9 months after the surgery Dr. Mosca will do a day surgery to remove the hardware from Logan's femur and hip. At this time Dr. Friedrich will release and pin his fingers. Logan will be in an arm cast for 3 weeks. This will save Logan from being put under 3 times in one year, since the surgeries will be done at the same time.

Although this seems like a lot, we are incredibly fortunate and blessed that all of Logan's surgeries are for things that can be corrected, nothing life threatening, nothing hindering him physically or mentally. We are truly blessed. That's the update! We will see the hand surgeon in a year or 2 unless we decide to do surgery sooner.

that's great that they can do 2 surgeries at once. why does he need the pelvic/hip/femur surgery?

Wow, what a great attitude you have! Aren't we blessed to live in a place where we can access such great medical care?

Kristina, He has coxa vera of th eleft hip(TH side) so the femoral head is bent at a 90degree angle, so it doesnt sit in the hip socket. They will break the femur, femeral head and pelvis and reset every thing

Jenna you are so positive about everything:) I didn't realise that Logan had to have further surgery, you are right though get it all done at once, and then it is done and dusted! Big hugs for Logan, (and you too)!
